All three need to be right when maintaining wood sports floors.

Equipment:

• Rotowash cleaning machinery:

uses 90% less water and chemicals, Rotowash’s unique twin contra-rotating brush system applies 10 times more pressure to the floor as opposed to conventional rotary scrubbing machines. The cleaning process is initiated through the mechanical action of the brushes, by the application of clean water and by using a suitable detergent (Bona Deep Clean diluted and spray applied) on the surface to be cleaned. The cleaning water dissolves the dirt, which is thrown onto the revolving drum by the two brushes and is then diverted into the wastewater tray.

• Bona Buffer Duo with quad plate:

is a two speed rotary buffing machine fitted with a quad plate that hold 4 abrasive discs. The asymmetrical mounted motor gives the Buffer perfect balance, whilst preventing the torque from the motor causing undesired pressure on the handles. A perfect balance and ergonomically correct working position. Fitted with a Bona four-plate disc drive board, it is the most effective combination when abrading wood floors.

Product:

• Bona Diamond abrasive discs:

these long lasting abrasives assure a consistent scratch pattern across the entire floor, leaving the best surface possible for optimal adhesion. Bona Diamond abrasive discs are revolutionary in their ability to thoroughly prepare alll polyurethane finished floors for recoating. We believe they are the best smoothing system you can use prior to that all important new coat of lacquer, leaving no visible swirl marks.

• Bona SuperSport HD lacquer, matt finish:

premium two-component waterborne wood floor lacquer specifically formulated for wood sport floors. Provides a tough, high build polyurethane finish in compliance with the European standard for indoor sports surfaces. Plus it’s recommended by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) for highest level of competition. It depends on use and cleaning regime but one coat of lacquer is recommended every 2 years to keep the floor up to standard.

Procedure:

we are Bona certified contractors, having received additional training by Bona in the correct use of their products and systems. You can rest easy, knowing that you have a trained and certified professional company to work with on your sports floor. Revive. Recoat. Renovate.

there are three ways to bring the your floor back to life and which works best is based on the age and condition of your floor. You will find them listed under our Sports Floor Maintenance section.

At The Streetly Academy we Renovated the floor is 2018 and Recoated the floor in December 2023. The Facilities Manager opted for two coats of lacquer in 2023 as it had been 5 years since the Renovation and the surface & lines were becoming worn.
