Designed around the realities of existing sports halls
Many school sports halls were built smaller than today’s recommended dimensions. With limited budgets and little or no space to expand, schools must often work within these constraints, leaving reduced run-off areas around courts, particularly for netball and basketball.
Softwall offers a practical way to improve player protection in these spaces. Its impact-absorbing panels help reduce the risk of injury where players may be unable to stop before reaching a hard wall.
Installed in more than 5,000 sports halls worldwide, Softwall is an established wall protection system. At just 19mm thick, it combines a resilient polyethylene foam core with a durable textile finish. Testing has demonstrated an impact reduction of more than 50%.
Engineered for protection
Resilient by design. Built to last.
Softwall comprises two integrated layers: a 15mm polyethylene foam core and a 4mm textile finish.
Weighing 600g/m², the closed-cell foam core absorbs impact while helping retain its elasticity under significant compression, supporting consistent performance over time. It is manufactured without chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), avoiding the environmental impact associated with their use in production.
A considered finish
Durability meets design.
The 4mm textile layer combines 450g/m² of soft fibres with a 150g/m² backing made from 100% polypropylene with SBR latex.
Available in six classic colours, the finish complements the surrounding space while helping reduce sound. Designed for everyday use, it is durable and easy to maintain with a damp cloth or vacuum cleaner.
Precisely specified. Carefully installed.
The suitability of each installation depends on the existing wall construction. Some walls require an additional 15mm tongue-and-groove plywood lining to create a level, suitable substrate for secure bonding. This preparation is separate from the 19mm Softwall system and is specified only where necessary.
Biddle Sport has installed Softwall in the UK since 2008, working in partnership with a leading European manufacturer with more than 30 years of experience in sports hall and gymnasium wall protection.
Every project is assessed individually, taking account of the building, wall construction and surrounding features. From doors and sockets to other architectural details, each element is carefully considered to achieve a precise, consistent finish.
The result is integrated wall protection designed around the space, supporting player safety while respecting the building.
